Lisbon Airport serves as both a hub and headquarters for TAP Portugal, a.k.a. Transportes Aéreos Portugueses. TAP is is the flag carrier airline of Portugal and a member of Star Alliance. It operates around 2,000 flights per week to 88 destinations across Europe, Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and the Americas.

TAP was founded in 1945 and it started operating in 1946. In 2015, TAP became majority-owned by the Atlantic Gateway Consortium, a joint venture between JetBlue Airways and Azul Brazilian Airlines. However, in 2016, the Portugal government recovered the strategic control over TAP, owning 50% of its shares.

TAP received the title Best Airline to South America by the World Travel Awards in 2009 and 2010. Also in 2010, the Conde Nast Travel magazine honored TAP with The World’s Best Airline Award.
